Useful Travel Information
Section 9: HEALTH AND TRAVEL
We would highly recommend you have travel insurance as medical treatment in North America can be very expensive. Canadian Affair offer fully comprehensive insurance at very competitive prices, if you have cover already with a bank, credit card or other company, please check that it covers you for Canada and that the level of medical cover is adequate. Canadian Affair’s insurance also covers you for missed departures and missed connections which not many other policies include. This is only available to passengers who have booked with Canadian Affair and we recommend that you arrange your insurance at the time of flight booking so that you are covered should anything happen before your holiday. Please contact us for more information.
If you have taken Canadian Affair travel insurance you will have a 24 hour emergency contact number that on calling will deal with your case immediately and ensure you are treated promptly. This will also include changing flight arrangements and contacting others if this should this be needed.
It's important to note that due to health risks for women in the later stages of pregnancy, certain air travel restrictions apply. You should also pay particular attention to your return date in order to respect the restrictions that apply to flying during pregnancy.
|Week of pregnancy||What you need to know|
|Up to 35||Carried on Air Transat flights without restriction|
|From 36 to 38||Must present a doctor's certificate issued within 24 hours prior to departure|
|From 39 on||Will not be carried on any Air Transat flight|
Once your baby is older than 7 days there is no hard and fast rule on the age a baby can fly, but we do recommend that you talk to your doctor and or health visitor before considering flying with your newborn.
The minimum age for unaccompanied minors travelling on our flights will be increased from 5 years of age to 8 years of age. Children under the age of 8 will not be allowed to travel alone on our flights, except if they are accompanied by a person aged 16 or older.
The child must therefore be between 8-11 inclusive on the day of travel.
A fee of CAD$100 in Canada and £65 in the UK per flight segment will apply and must be paid directly at the airport on the departure day.
Minors 12 to 15 years of age will continue to be accepted and provided airport guidance free of charge, however parents or guardians wishing to have the enhanced Unaccompanied Minor Service may do so for the rate of CAD$100 or £65 in each directions. All Unaccompanied minor services and handling will therefore apply.
The Unaccompanied minors are escorted by our personnel until they reach their final Air Transat destination (no connections permitted). The service also includes Seat Selection, priority baggage handling, a comfort kit on board (includes a blanket, socks, and a headset), a surprise pack, and free snacks from our On Board Bistro menu.
